The Snowdens
A mother gets up to wake the family. The husband has to go to work, and the daughter and son have to go to school. School and work, however, are not in the immediate future. Her son is non-responsive. They must go to the hospital. The culprit? A seizure while he slept. This mother and father, along with his sister, go to sleep every night wondering if he'll wake up the next morning.
Let's go back several years ago. A husband and wife have a beautiful, healthy, normal little girl and baby boy. The mother's great-grandfather passes away. The day after, they stop on Getwell Road in Memphis, Tennessee behind her family while they all await their turn to turn into a gas station. Out of nowhere, comes the impact. A drunk driver slams into them at 92 miles per hour! When crews get there, they transport a baby boy to the hospital, where he is comatose for 13 days, all while flatlining at least 9 times. Doctors and nurses encourage the young mother and father to "pull the plug" on their little baby, their little angel. They refuse to give up. Surgery is given to his brain to get the fluid to release and save his life.
He looks the same, but he isn't. He's now terminally ill, with a real chance of losing his life. As his brain grows, more problems arise. Lou and I are very close to this little boy and his family.
The mother can't work due to the heavy needs laid on her to be with him in case something happens. The dad wasn't making enough to make ends meet, and is, as we speak, training to drive. The house is literally falling apart, they've got beds that you feel the springs while you sleep. They haven't had a real Christmas since the son was hurt. Not for lack of trying, but for lack of options. This is the epitome of why Trucking Santas was started. Families like this need to feel like normal people. Families like this truly need the help.
We are trying to get them on Extreme Home Makeover, but thus far, have been unsuccessful.
